How Do I Measure For My Replacement Patio Cushions ?

If you have outdoor chair cushions that fit properly but are worn out, you can measure for replacement patio cushions by following these easy steps. Before you begin taking measurements, make sure you lay the existing patio cushion flat on a hard surface such as the floor.

  • Measure the length of the patio cushion from the front of the outdoor chair cushion to the back.
  • Measure the width of the patio cushion from one side to the other. When measuring the width of a standard patio cushion, be sure to measure in 3 different places and take the smallest measurement (since your existing patio furniture cushions may be more worn in some areas).
  • Measure the thickness of the seat. Remember that the outdoor chair cushion is worn so it might be flatter now. In general, wood furniture patio cushions are 2-3″ thick and aluminum furniture cushions are 3-5″ thick.

Chaise lounge patio cushions are available for chaise lounges that have a “back” section, “seat” section and a “leg section” or for chaise lounges that have a back and a seat. If you have existing chaise lounge outdoor chair cushions, measuring for replacement cushions is easy. Note: When taking measurements, make sure you are measuring from edge to edge, not seam to seam. And remember to lay the existing steamer/lounger cushion flat on a hard surface such as the floor.

  • Measure for the length of the back of the cushion by taking a measurement at the top of the cushion down to the fold of the cushion.
  • Measure for the length of the seat of the cushion.
  • Measure for the length of the leg rest at the top of the leg rest to the bottom of the cushion.
  • To get the width of the cushion, measure from the edge of one side of the leg rest section of the cushion to the edge of the other side. It is important to measure for the width at the leg rest section because it is most likely the portion of the cushion that has been flattened the least.
